Apostille for importing a Japanese car to Mongolia
Mongolia is the fastest-growing top-10 destination for Japanese used vehicles: 111,661 units in 2024, +40% YoY. A Hague Convention member since 2009, with a mature documentary practice. Both LHD and RHD vehicles are legally importable — a unique flexibility that makes Mongolia an open market for the full Japanese supply.

The local authority — General Department of Roads & Transportation
In Mongolia, vehicle registration is managed by the General Department of Roads and Transportation (Авто Тээврийн Үндэсний Төв) under the Ministry of Road and Transport Development. Customs clearance happens at Zamiin-Üüd (rail) for vehicles arriving via the Trans-Siberian + Mongolian Railway corridor, and at the Tushig / Sukhbaatar crossings. Apostilled documents are routinely accepted; the General Department has formal templates that recognise the Hague apostille.

Why Mongolia rewards apostilled documents
Mongolian car imports historically came overland through Russia (Vladivostok → Trans-Siberian → Ulaanbaatar). Customs along this route value rigorously-documented chains. Apostilled certificates close the chain of custody back to Japanese MLIT — useful both at Mongolian customs and downstream if the vehicle is later resold to Russia or Central Asian neighbours (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, all Hague). One apostille covers all subsequent re-registrations.

Russian as a bridge language
Many Mongolian importers (especially the 40+ generation) prefer commercial communication in Russian. Our Russian-language website mirror serves Ulaanbaatar dealers as well as Russian, Georgian, and Central Asian importers. The apostille certificate itself is bilingual French/English in standard Hague format; no Mongolian translation is required by Mongolian customs (only for plate issue, by a local translator).
