Apostille for importing a Japanese car to Chile

Free zones rely on documentary trust. The MLIT certificate alone is the original Japanese deregistration; the apostille adds the Japanese MoFA attestation that signature, seal, and authority are genuine — making the document equivalent in evidentiary weight to a notarised Chilean public deed. For dealers building reputations with Aduanas, this matters. For private importers, it provides recourse if the vehicle is later challenged.

Many Chilean dealers also import to Bolivia, Peru, or Paraguay (all Hague members). The same apostille is valid in all three downstream markets — useful for re-exporters. Note: the Spanish translation of the apostilled document is still required by Aduanas; we do not handle translation, only the legalisation step in Tokyo.
